It’s a sunny day where Jill and Mary are laying on the grass, looking through a cookbook full of deserts for their upcoming baking competition the town held.
Each year you team up with someone and bake a dessert that will later be judged by three judges. The best dessert that wins, will get baking utensils and 500 dollars to each person!
It is a very big deal for the two girls since it is their first year entering the competition. The girls decide on a delicious 3 sweet pie that has chocolate, whipped cream, and caramel.
It looked delicious and very easy to make. “Now that we’ve decided on what to bake, let’s go to the store for the ingredients,” suggests Jill. “Let’s go!” Mary says.
The girls stand up and run inside to tell Jill’s mother and next thing you know, they are at the supermarket. The girl’s dash over to the baking section where they see nothing but empty shelves.
Confused, they look at each other, “Where’s everything?” Mary asks and looks up and down at the shelves. “That’s odd, everyone must have bought all the baking ingredients for the competition. Don’t worry girls, let’s head to another store,” Jill’s mother reassures them.
The next store turns out the same, no ingredients, along with the next store and the next, until they visit each store and find nothing!
Jill and Mary return home where they are faced with disappointment. The competition is 4 days away and they need enough time to practice and prepare, “Let’s not be too sad, maybe the stores will restock. We can always try tomorrow!” Jill stays hopeful for the next day.
Jill and Mary eventually fall asleep from a movie they were watching when a loud crash comes from downstairs and instantly startles them awake.
“What was that?” Mary whispers loudly to Jill. “I don’t know, let’s go see!” Jill and Mary sneak downstairs slowly when they hear someone weeping.
The girls walk into the kitchen to see the cabinet open, where the crying was coming from, “Hello?” Mary whispers to the unknown crying, “Hi, there.”, A quiet and tiny voice replies from the cabinet.
As they approach the cabinet, a small fairy is revealed sitting inside, “Who are you and what are you doing in my cabinet?” Jill questions the fairy.
“I am a sweets fairy. I am crying because something terrible has happened! All of the sweets in the world has been stolen! I came here to see if you had any because If I do not have them, I disappear forever.”
The fairy explains to the girls and stands up. “That’s why we can’t find any sweets for our baking competition!” Mary exclaims and folds her arms in frustration.
The sweets fairy suggests finding clues around the house that tells of how the sweets went missing.
The girls rummage around the rooms until they lift a pillow to find a piece of broccoli under it, with a note attached.
Without question, Mary opens the note and reads aloud, “Dear Children of the world, I am the vegetable fairy and I have taken all of your precious ingredients for sweets for one reason.
You are not eating enough vegetables and for that, you will never enjoy a piece of dessert or candy ever again!”
The girls gasp in shock as they hear what has happened, “How could this be!” The sweets fairy exclaims. “How on earth are we going to find the vegetable fairy? Where are they, in a garden or something?” Mary says, while Jill and the sweets fairy quickly stare at her, “What?” Mary questions.
“That’s it! The vegetable fairy is obviously in a garden, we must find her there!” the sweets fairy reveals.
After some time, the three finally reach the vegetable garden where they see the vegetable fairy sitting upon a pumpkin, “There she is!” Jill exclaims and they run towards her.
“Vegetable fairy, we know what you did! Give us back the ingredients right now!” The sweets fairy demands with an angry look on her face.
The vegetable fairy laughs at them. “If you want your sweets back, you must do one thing.” The three look at each other, wondering what it could be. “You must make sure all children around the world eat their vegetables every day.”
The sweets fairy thinks for a moment, “Fine, I can do that, but you must never take away sweets from the world again.”
At last, the vegetable fairy waves her hand and returns all the sweets of the world, and the sweets fairy makes sure children eat their vegetables, which they do.
Jill and Mary make their delicious pie and end up winning their first competition! It’s a joyous time for all, and having sweets back into the world, makes the world a happier place.
