Sarah and her family were in the middle of moving from their small town to a big city in New York. The house they chose was kind of run-down, looked very spooky, and needed a lot of fixing, but luckily, that was what her father was for.
Sarah was excited about a new start in life and couldn’t wait to see what the city brought her. Sarah packed the rest of her things in the moving truck and closed the door.
“That’s it, the house is officially empty!” Her mother and father hugged her as they took one last look at the house they started a family in. “I promise this new house is going to be worth it. We have many plans.” Her father said and helped her into the truck.
The drive to the new house took a few hours but once they arrived, Sarah was skeptical about the looks of it. “It will need a lot of work, that’s for sure,” Sarah said and stepped out of the truck.
While her parents were unloading the truck, Sarah decided to get a headstart and get a feel for the new house. She stepped onto the wooden steps and a creak from the boards, made her back up, startled. “It was just the porch,” Sarah said to herself as she opened the door. The house was large and her voice echoed as she spoke, “wow.”
The days in the house were fun and new, except for a few weird occurrences. Sarah was watching tv when the channel changed. “Mom, I was watching that.” Sarah looked around but her mom was nowhere near her and the remote was on the other side of the couch.
“It must be this old tv.” Sarah shrugged it off and continued watching and that night, she was getting ready for bed when suddenly, the lights in the bathroom flickered on and off.
Sarah yelled, “Dad, stop!” Her father always teased her, but he was nowhere to be found. Sarah tried to shake off the weird things happening by going to bed. She laid in bed with her eyes closed and felt her body soon fall into a deep sleep when someone began to shake her awake.
Sarah’s eyes opened widely to see a young girl pale as can be with a dress on.
“Who are you, what are you doing in my house!” Sarah jumped out of bed and turned on the light, but could barely see her. “My name is Misty, and this is my house, what do you mean?” Her voice was coming from all the sides of the room and Sarah couldn’t quite find where she was.
“Why can’t I see you?” Sarah asked frighteningly. “I’m a ghost, silly. I’m the one who’s been messing with you all day, today. I didn’t know how else to say hello, so I started teasing you.”
Misty laughed and showed herself in front of Sarah. “I’m talking to a ghost?” Sarah examined her clear body. Yep, you sure are! And guess what? You’re going to be my friend, or else I won’t stop messing with you.”
Misty said in a serious tone of voice. “I’m going to tell my parents about you!” Sarah turned towards the door and tried to open it, but it was locked. “Hey, let me go!” Sarah exclaimed.
“Calm down, I just want to be friends. Why can’t we be friends?” Misty asked, and tilted her head in curiosity. “It’s because you’re a ghost, how can you have any fun?” Sarah crossed her arms.
“I can have lots of fun, look!” Suddenly, Sarah’s body began to lift from the ground and spin around the room. Sarah yelled in excitement, “Wow, this is so much fun!” She exclaimed with her arms out. “That’s not even the coolest part!” Misty turned Sarah invisible and took her downstairs.
“No one can see you, so you can do whatever you want,” Misty added. Sarah gasped and ran towards her parents and stood in front of them. They continued to watch tv as if nothing had happened.
Sarah enjoyed doing many cool things with Misty and accepted her offer to be friends. After all, it wasn’t so bad keeping her a secret. Misty agreed to stop messing with her and lived with her where they formed a strong friendship for a very long time.
