Meet Bub Bub and Dub Dub
Bub Bub and Dub Dub are best friends who live in a cozy little cottage in the woods. Bub Bub is caring, intelligent and adventurous while Dub Dub is sweet, innocent and kindhearted.
They love to enjoy every moment and have exciting adventures together.
Picnic Scare
It was the perfect day. The sun was shining in all its glory. The clouds were snowy white shaped like cotton candy while the blue sky invited one and all to come out and play.
Bub Bub who was standing just outside his cottage enjoying the great weather, went inside and said, “Dub Dub, it’s such a lovely day, we must do something fun.”
Dub Dub who was having quite a lazy morning resting on his couch agreed. “But what can we do?” he wondered.
“I know, I have an idea. Why don’t we go for a picnic?” replied Bub Bub.
Dub Dub’s eyes lit up and suddenly he jumped up with excitement. “Wow, I just love picnics, what a brilliant idea.”
Dub Dub moved so fast that Bub Bub thought he would leave for the picnic without him. Dub Dub was actually going to the kitchen. “Let me pack a picnic basket first” said Dub Dub really excited.
Dub Dub prepared some delicious sandwiches and arranged a few fruits. He also got couple of packs of juice and a bottle of water for if they felt thirsty at the picnic.
He neatly packed everything in a picnic basket including tissues and boxes that would help them clean up once they were done.
Once everything was packed, Dub Dub turned to Bub Bub and said, “now we are ready, let’s go.”
They were so eager to leave for the picnic that they left their cottage and only then did they realize they had not decided where they should be going.
Bub Bub smiled and said, “I know just the place. The path behind our house leads deeper into the woods. If we walk a little while, we will come across a hill. We can climb it and once on top you will see the most breath-taking view you have ever seen.”
Dub Dub was even more excited now. He begged Bub Bub to tell him more about the view. However, Bub Bub refused saying he had to see it for himself to truly understand how wonderful it was.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub both walked for a while and sure enough after some time they came across the hill they had to climb.
“Look, Dub Dub, we are almost there. It’s just a short climb from here and we will be at the picnic spot.” said Bub Bub.
However, once they started climbing, Dub Dub started feeling tired as he found the path to be quite steep. Halfway through the climb, Dub Dub took support of a nearby branch and asked “Bub Bub, how much longer to reach the top? I feel so tired and my feet have started to hurt.”
Bub Bub realized his dear friend was having second thoughts about going up the hill. He encouraged him to carry on. “Dub Dub, I know this is tiring but it is just a little while longer and trust me, it will be completely worth it once we are at the top”.
Dub Dub gathered all his strength and started moving again. He knew Bub Bub was right. This was not the time to stop. He could rest later.
The two friends continued on their trek and in just a few more minutes, they were on top of the hill.
Dub Dub immediately began looking around for the view. What he saw made him gasp in amazement. Suddenly he was no longer tired and was jumping all over the place.
They saw the most amazing view they had ever seen.
In the distance, they could see incredible snow-capped mountains. Just below, there was a lake that was shimmering with the reflections of the mountain peaks. Pink, blue, purple and yellow wildflowers grew on one side of the lake. Tall pine trees had surrounded the entire valley.
The sky was a clear crisp blue and birds were chirping, flying around having the best time of their lives.
Around the picnic spot there were tiny plants each of them having flowers that felt as if they covered all colors of the rainbow.
The hill, the valley, the mountains with the lake, everything was just so breath-taking. Dub Dub could not believe his eyes.
He turned to Bub Bub and said “Oh you were so right. This is wonderful. It feels like a dream. This is the perfect spot for our picnic”.
Bub Bub who was as excited as Dub Dub looked around and found a log that felt as if it could be used as a table.
Bub Bub suggested they could use the log to place their picnic basket. Dub Dub immediately started unpacking all the delicious food they were carrying.
The aroma from the lip-smacking food started spreading all over the place. Bub Bub and Dub Dub were quite hungry from the climb and could not wait to eat everything.
However, as the aroma spread, a bear that lived nearby smelled it and stood up at once. “Wow, what’s that smell?” he thought to himself. It feels like someone is carrying some yummy food with them.
The bear quietly followed the aroma and tiptoed towards the picnic spot. He hid behind one of the many bushes and glanced over to see Bub Bub and Dub Dub setting up their plates.
He could see everything in the picnic basket. His mouth started watering and he could not control himself anymore.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub had barely taken the first bite of their sandwich when the bear leaped from behind and growled as loudly as he could.
GROWL, GROWL, GROWL
Bub Bub and Dub Dub were completely startled. They felt as if the big bear had pounced on them. They were so scared that they just dropped everything and ran as fast as they could.
Bub Bub yelled, “Run Dub Dub, run as fast as you can”.
Bub Bub made sure Dub Dub was ahead of him so that he would be safe and Bub Bub could handle the bear if needed.
They both ran as fast as they could and did not look back even once to see where the bear was. All they could hear was….
GROWL, GROWL, GROWL
Within no time they had already reached the bottom of the hill that took them so long to climb.
However, they were so scared and so worried about the bear that they ended up running in the opposite direction from where they came.
They ran deeper into the woods and Bub Bub thought they should keep running as long as they could hear the bear.
The growls from the bear started to get faint and after a while, Bub Bub thought maybe they had finally managed to lose the bear.
Bub Bub told Dub Dub to stop and they both looked around to see if the bear was still chasing them.
Once they felt safe, they both sat down on the forest floor and wondered what to do next.
Bub Bub asked Dub Dub not to panic. They could rest for a while. Once they were absolutely certain the bear was not around, they could make their way back home.
It wasn’t long before Dub Dub felt he had rested enough and wanted to go home. They both got up and started walking.
It is then that they realized they had run deeper into the woods and did not know where they were.
“Oh no, Bub Bub we are lost, what do we do?” said a worried Dub Dub.
“Don’t worry, I think we need to walk in that direction and hopefully it should lead us all the way back from where we came,” replied Bub Bub pointing towards the way home.
They walked and walked but felt as if they were coming across the same trees again and again. Dub Dub who was already scared said “Bub Bub, we are just going around in circles, we could end up going even deeper into the woods.”
Bub Bub agreed. He suggested they should sit and clear their heads first.
“Let us sit here and plan what we should do next. If we let our fear control us, then we will not be able to get back anytime soon. I suggest we sit here, think about what to do next and do it with a clear mind”.
While Dub Dub agreed with what Bub Bub said, he was also concerned that it would start getting dark soon. Then it would be almost impossible to find their way back home.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub sat for a while under the shade of a tree when suddenly Dub Dub thought he heard someone’s voice.
He looked at Bub Bub and wondered, “did you hear that? Did someone just call out to us?”
Bub Bub thought Dub Dub was hearing things as he was scared. However, all of a sudden someone said “Hellooooo” and this time Bub Bub could hear it as well.
“You were right Dub Dub, someone is calling out to us”. But who could it be? And that too so deep inside the forest.
The voice kept coming and both Bub Bub and Dub Dub wondered what to do. After pondering for a while, they decided they should go towards where the voice was coming from as it may be their only hope to get some help.
They started walking towards where they thought the voice was coming from and now it started getting louder. “Hello, up here”.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub reached in front of a tall pine tree. They looked up and there was a small tree house on one of the branches.
They were still wondering where the voice was coming from when they could hear it again “Ah, at last, wait I am coming down”.
Now they could see it – a gorgeous red, yellow and blue parrot. The parrot swooped down from the branch she was sitting on and landed right in front of Bub Bub and Dub Dub. “Hello, how are you fellas? My name is Tia”.
Before Bub Bub and Dub Dub could react, Tia spoke again. “I think you fellas are lost. I have been watching you for a while and you keep going in circles. What is wrong?”
This time Bub Bub spoke and narrated everything that had happened. They told her about their picnic plans, the hill with an amazing view and of course the bear.
Once Bub Bub had explained their situation, Tia started to laugh.
HaHaHa, HaHaHa, she could not stop.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub wondered what was so funny and asked Tia about it.
Now Tia started explaining, “I know the hill you are talking about and the bear as well”.
“That bear could not hurt a fly even if he wanted to. His name is Monty and he must have been really hungry. Seeing all the food he jumped up and you guys thought he was attacking and ran.” she chuckled.
“You must be a really good cook Dub Dub. Your food must have been irresistible to Monty.” Dub Dub gushed and agreed he was a good cook.
“Don’t worry guys. I know this part of the woods very well. I will help you get back home” assured Tia.
On hearing this Bub Bub and Dub Dub felt so relieved. Tia asked them to follow her as she started flying. Tia seemed like a happy-go-lucky bird. Sometimes she would fly, sometimes she would prance.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub already liked Tia. They could imagine she must be a lot of fun to be around.
Soon they were once again at the bottom of the hill where they had gone for their picnic.
“You guys ran in that direction when you thought Monty was chasing you, so your home must be the other way over there.”
Bub Bub now recognized the way and nodded “yes it is that way.”
They followed Tia for a while longer when in the distance they could now see their cozy little cottage.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub both spoke at once pointing Tia towards their home.
“I guess you guys can make it back from here,” said Tia with a smile.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub just did not know how to thank Tia. They were just so grateful to her. Dub Dub invited Tia to join them for dinner but Tia had to go back home as her family was waiting for her.
However, she said, “you know what, your picnic basket is still on top of the hill. Perhaps I can go pick it up in the morning and drop by at your cottage. We can then play and I can also taste your delicious cooking.”
Bub Bub and Dub Dub agreed and after saying their goodbyes to Tia, they both ran to their home. They entered their cottage and breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Both fell back on the couch in the living room, exhausted from their adventure.
Bub Bub and Dub Dub could not believe what a day they just had. They felt so many emotions, from excitement to being scared.
However, both of them agreed that it was one of the best days ever especially because in the end, they made a new friend and they knew they would be friends with Tia forever.
In fact, they even wondered about Monty the bear and suggested next time they would take some food for him as well.
It was time for bed now and although they were really tired, they were also excited as they knew the next picnic would be even more fun. Bub Bub and Dub Dub would be joined by their new friends Tia and Monty.
