Macy is the eldest of two younger siblings that constantly annoy her. She argues with them about them ruining her things and invading her privacy. Macy becomes mad every day and does her best to annoy them.
One night, it becomes the last straw when Macy walks into her room to find some of her makeup broken. She is furious and marches into their rooms and scolds them before she begins to cry in anger.
“You two always ruin my things and I can never get away from you! I hate you!” Macy slams their door and runs outside where she lays onto the grass alone. Her parents decide to leave her be until she gets over it, but it doesn’t seem to right away.
Macy gazes into the night sky with tears rolling down her cheeks. Sure, it was just makeup, but it was her things they were destroyed, which she loved so much.
Macy notices the full moon that glowed brightly, bringing a small smile to her face and some comfort. The cloudiness disappeared which revealed the brightest star in the sky that night.
Macy sniffled and wiped her eyes. “I’ve never wished on a star, maybe tonight should be the night.” Macy closed her eyes and wished for her to be the only person in the world, where she would never be bothered by anyone and could live happily. Little did she know, wishes came true and that is exactly what happened as Macy walked inside.
“Mom, Dad, I know you’re going to get mad at me for saying I hate you, so I’ll apologize to them right now.“ Macy looked around the house but didn’t see her parents anywhere in sight.
She thought they left, so she walked into her sibling’s room to find them missing as well. Macy thought nothing of it. They would be back so she watched tv for a while, before falling asleep onto the couch and woke up the next morning.
She stretched her arms and yawned, as she looked around and noticed the house very empty. “Hello?” She spoke as she got up from the couch, confused. Macy tried calling her parents but they were not picking up their phones.
“I feel like I’m the only person in the world,” she said to herself, before dropping the cereal, realizing what she wished for last night. “Could this be real?” Macy looked out the window and noticed the bare city before her.
She told herself they would be back soon, but days passed and she realized how her wish came true. “How do I get them back?” she thought to herself on the couch. As nice as it was to have peace and quiet, she missed her parents and her siblings and wasn’t sure if they would ever come back.
The thought of her never seeing her family again, made tears fill her eyes, and sobbed quietly. She suddenly didn’t want to be the only person in the world, now. She missed getting annoyed at her siblings, even the arguments, and the lectures her parents would give her.
Her friends disappeared and she missed them as well. This was no way to live. Was this a test to see if she would regret her wish? If it was, she felt horrible about it and missed everyone.
There had to be some way to get them back. She read books on how to reverse a wish, but there was nothing to give her answers. She felt hopeless, but the last thing left to do was to go outside and wish upon a star for them back.
Macy laid onto the grass and closed her eyes. She wished as hard as she could, “Please, bring my family and friends back. I miss them so much and now I realize how important and lucky I am to have everyone in my life. I will appreciate my siblings and makeup with them, please, please.”
Tears fell from her eyes and a twinkle came from the star, which caused her to open her eyes. Macy stood up and saw her empty kitchen. “It didn’t work..” Macy placed her hands into her hands and cried once more until she heard the sound of the car doors shutting. Macy opened her eyes to her family getting out of the car. It was the best sight she had ever seen.
From then on, Macy realized the actions of her own words and the importance of the family in her life. Everyone gets mad, but at any time, they could be gone and she realized how devastating that would be. She only wished for good things in her life, because she knew that was a bad wish that came true.
